I Never Lost Faith in Myself - PV Sindhu

Indian badminton star PV Sindhu has expressed her delight after winning the Japan Open Super 750 title, becoming the first Indian woman to achieve the feat. An emotional Sindhu said that she never lost faith in herself, even during difficult times, and credited that belief for her success. She also revealed that her next goal is to carry this momentum into next month's BWF World Championships and win a record sixth medal. In the final, Sindhu defeated Japan's star shuttler Akane Yamaguchi in straight games, 21-17, 21-17.

"This victory is very special to me. I have been working hard for a long time to achieve this. The moment I won, I was overwhelmed with emotion and tears of joy. I had been waiting for a title for the past 19 months. Many people questioned whether my time was over, but I never stopped believing in myself. I always knew I could do it, and that belief helped me win. I am grateful to my coaches, my parents, my husband, and my in-laws for standing by me throughout this journey," Sindhu said.

This is Sindhu's first major title since winning the Syed Modi International in December 2024. It is also her most prestigious triumph since clinching the gold medal at the 2019 World Championships.

Sindhu said the victory has given her immense confidence ahead of the BWF World Championships, which will be held in India from August 17 to 23. Already a five-time World Championship medallist, she now has the opportunity to create history by becoming the first women's singles player to win six World Championship medals.

"I want to maintain the form, composure, and confidence that I have now. This victory has come at the right time, and I hope to continue this momentum at the World Championships. Staying calm in every situation is very important. My attacking game is my biggest strength. I am moving freely on the court and playing with confidence. If I can reduce unforced errors, I can control the match completely, and that worked perfectly for me in this tournament," Sindhu added.
