

Indian women’s team captain Harmanpreet Kaur has equalled an important record. In the final match of the five-match T20 series against Sri Lanka, held in Thiruvananthapuram, Harmanpreet played a brilliant innings, scoring 68 runs. While other batters failed to stay at the crease for long, she stood firm and guided the team with a fine half-century. Her strong performance earned her the Player of the Match award.
With this award, Harmanpreet Kaur matched the record of former Indian women’s team star batter Mithali Raj. Mithali had won the Player of the Match award 12 times in her T20 career. After this match, Harmanpreet also reached 12 such awards, equalling Mithali’s achievement.
Mithali Raj represented India from 1999 to 2022 for 23 years. She played 89 T20 matches and scored 2,364 runs. Harmanpreet Kaur has so far played 187 T20 matches and scored 3,784 runs. By matching Mithali Raj’s record, Harmanpreet has added another milestone to her career.
