Norway stunned the football world by defeating Brazil 2-1 in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16 at the New York New Jersey Stadium. Erling Haaland once again proved his class, scoring two second-half goals to guide Norway into the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time in the nation's history. Brazil had an early opportunity to take the lead, but Bruno Guimaraes failed to convert a first-half penalty as goalkeeper Orjan Nyland produced a brilliant save.
The match remained goalless until the 79th minute before Haaland broke the deadlock with a powerful header. He added another goal in stoppage time after an excellent assist from Andreas Schjelderup, putting the result beyond Brazil's reach. Neymar converted a late penalty, but it was only a consolation as Brazil suffered their earliest World Cup exit since 1990. Norway will now face either England or Mexico in the quarter-finals.
