The second ODI between India and the West Indies at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati on September 30 turned into a massive run-fest. West Indies posted 405 for seven after batting first, but India chased down the target in just 43.3 overs, winning by eight wickets. The victory gave India their highest successful run chase in ODI cricket.
Despite the record-breaking chase, India head coach Gautam Gambhir expressed his dissatisfaction with the playing conditions. Speaking to Star Sports after the match, Gambhir said there needs to be greater competition between bat and ball and that pitches should offer bowlers something to work with. He acknowledged that high-scoring matches and records may entertain fans and broadcasters, but argued that conditions offering little assistance to bowlers are not ideal for competitive cricket.
