The Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) created history in the FIFA World Cup by registering their first-ever victory in the tournament after 52 years of waiting. They defeated Uzbekistan 3-1 in a crucial match to qualify for the Round of 32 for the first time in World Cup history.
Despite conceding an early goal, Congo made a strong comeback. After trailing in the 10th minute, they equalised through a penalty by Yoane Wissa in the 68th minute. Substitute Fiston Mayele then scored in the 78th minute to give them a 2-1 lead, while Wissa added another in stoppage time to seal a memorable victory. With this win, Congo advanced as one of the best third-placed teams and will now face England in the knockout stage.
