England made a strong start to their T20 World Cup Super 8 campaign with a convincing 51-run victory over Sri Lanka at the Pallekele International Stadium. Chasing a target of 147 runs, Sri Lanka struggled against disciplined English bowling and were bowled out for just 95 runs in 16.4 overs. Captain Dasun Shanaka top-scored with 30 runs, while Dunith Wellalage (10), Kusal Mendis (13), and Maheesh Theekshana (10) were the only other batters to reach double digits as wickets fell regularly under pressure.

Earlier, England posted 146/9 in their allotted 20 overs after opting to bat first. Opener Phil Salt anchored the innings with an impressive half-century, scoring 62 runs despite wickets falling at the other end. Will Jacks (21) and Harry Brook (14) provided brief support, while Sri Lankan bowlers fought back through Wellalage’s three wickets and two scalps each from Madushanka and Theekshana. With the ball, Will Jacks claimed three wickets, while Jofra Archer, Liam Dawson, and Adil Rashid picked up two wickets apiece to seal England’s emphatic win.
