The opening Ashes Test in Perth has entered a tense phase after England collapsed for just 164 runs in their second innings. With Australia holding the first-innings lead, the hosts now need 205 runs to clinch victory.
For England, Gus Atkinson (37), Ollie Pope (33), and Ben Duckett (28) were the only batsmen who offered some resistance, while the rest failed to make an impact. Australia’s bowling attack dominated the innings, with Scott Boland grabbing four wickets and Mitchell Starc along with Brydon Doggett taking three each.
By the tea break, Australia had reached 3 runs without losing a wicket. Jake Weatherald (0) and Travis Head (3) were at the crease.
Earlier in the day, resuming from their overnight score of 123/9, Australia were bowled out for 132 in 45.2 overs. Alex Carey top-scored with 26, while Cameron Green (24) and Travis Head (21) contributed useful runs. England’s Ben Stokes starred with the ball, claiming five wickets. Brydon Carse took three and Jofra Archer picked up two.
