India may face a significant challenge ahead of the upcoming ODI series against Afghanistan, with Rohit Sharma's participation remaining uncertain. The veteran opener, who sustained an injury during the IPL, has reportedly not yet reported to the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru for his fitness assessment. Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar has stated that both Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya will join the squad only after successfully clearing their fitness tests, raising doubts over Rohit's availability for the series.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli has already been ruled out of the series due to a hamstring injury suffered during the IPL final. Despite discomfort, Kohli played a crucial role in his team's victory before the injury worsened. With both senior players potentially unavailable, Team India could enter the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan without two of its most experienced batters. The series is scheduled to begin on June 13 following the conclusion of the one-off Test in New Chandigarh, providing younger players with an opportunity to step up on the international stage.
