Indian javelin thrower and Asian athletics medallist Shivpal Singh has been handed a 10-year ban by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) after testing positive for the banned anabolic steroid methandienone. With a previous anti-doping violation on his record, the latest case was treated as a second offence, resulting in a tougher sanction.
Meanwhile, Asian Games heptathlon gold medallist Swapna Barman has been provisionally suspended by NADA after testing positive for the banned anabolic-androgenic steroid boldenone. The action comes despite her recent retirement announcement. Disciplinary proceedings will continue, and she will have an opportunity to seek a B-sample test and appear for a hearing.
