Denmark’s legendary badminton player Viktor Axelsen has announced his retirement from professional badminton. The 32-year-old, who has been suffering from a long-term back injury, stated in a press release on Wednesday that he is no longer able to continue his playing career, bringing an end to his professional journey.
Axelsen, an Olympic gold medallist from both Tokyo and Paris, has achieved remarkable success throughout his career. He also secured gold medals at the 2017 and 2022 World Championships, establishing his dominance on the global stage. He has been out of competition since October last year due to persistent back pain. Axelsen also set a record by remaining world number one for 183 weeks, consistently dominating opponents with his exceptional performances on court.
