Vinesh Phogat received relief from the Delhi High Court, which allowed her to participate in the Asian Games selection trials. The bench observed that it would be unfair to keep a reputed athlete like Vinesh away from the competition. The court also stated that women athletes should not face discrimination or exclusion from sports because of motherhood.
The Delhi High Court directed officials to record the entire selection trial process scheduled for May 30 and 31. It also instructed that observers from the Sports Authority of India and the Indian Olympic Association should be present during the trials. Vinesh had challenged the Wrestling Federation’s last-minute changes to the selection rules in court.
