India's campaign in the 2026 ICC Women's T20 World Cup ended at the group stage for the second consecutive time, leading to discussions over captain Harmanpreet Kaur's future. However, head coach Amol Muzumdar expressed complete confidence in her leadership. India posted a competitive total of 170 against Australia but failed to defend it as Ellyse Perry and Ashleigh Gardner guided Australia to victory and a semifinal berth.
Speaking after the match, Muzumdar said the final decision on captaincy rests with the selectors but added that he fully supports Harmanpreet continuing as captain. Former India cricketer Anjum Chopra also backed Harmanpreet, saying there is currently no better leader for the team. She, however, stressed the need for a more aggressive batting approach and greater confidence from the top order.
