Team India received a boost ahead of the first ODI against the West Indies, with batting coach Sitanshu Kotak confirming that captain Shubman Gill is fit to play. Gill was hit on his right elbow by a delivery from Mohammed Siraj during Friday’s practice session and received treatment for nearly 20 minutes. He later returned to the nets and faced throwdowns, easing concerns over his availability for Sunday’s match.
Kotak also spoke about the competition for places in the squad and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s limited opportunities. He said the intense competition within the team was the reason Jaiswal has had to wait for his chances and stressed that the opener continues to work on his skills and preparation. On Ravindra Jadeja, Kotak said the experienced all-rounder remains an important part of India’s plans, highlighting his batting, bowling and fielding abilities, as well as the value of his experience.
