Former Team India captain Rohit Sharma shared his views on the challenges of team selection, stating that taking tough decisions is an unavoidable part of leadership. While it is impossible to please everyone, he emphasized that it is important to clearly explain to a player why they have been left out.
Speaking as a promoter of the upcoming T20 World Cup, Rohit said it would feel strange to watch the tournament from home for the first time. He recalled being part of every T20 World Cup in his career so far and added that even being in the stadium as a spectator would feel very different from past experiences.
Rohit cited examples from previous tournaments, including the 2022 Asia Cup and T20 World Cup, where Shreyas Iyer was left out in favor of all-rounder Deepak Hooda for team balance. He said he and then head coach Rahul Dravid personally explained the decision to Shreyas. Similar explanations were given to Yuzvendra Chahal during the 2023 ODI World Cup and Mohammed Siraj ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy. Rohit expressed confidence that India will perform strongly in the upcoming T20 World Cup, highlighting the young squad with an average age of 25 as a major positive.
