Chess Olympiad: Indian Teams Held to Draws in Round 8

India’s women’s team played out a 2-2 draw against Kazakhstan in the eighth round of the Chess Olympiad. Savita Shri continued her impressive run by securing her seventh win of the tournament. After Vaishali suffered a defeat, Savita’s victory brought India level. Divya Deshmukh and Koneru Humpy then drew their respective games, resulting in a 2-2 scoreline. China and Kazakhstan lead the women’s standings with 13 points each, while India are just half a point behind.

The Indian open team also finished its eighth-round match with a 2-2 draw against Azerbaijan. D. Gukesh, R. Praggnanandhaa, Arjun Erigaisi and Nihal Sarin all shared points with their respective opponents. Germany and Uzbekistan are jointly leading the open section with 14 points each, while India and the Netherlands are next with 13 points apiece. India will look to strengthen its position in the remaining rounds.
