In an IPL 2026 encounter at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala, Mumbai Indians faced Punjab Kings with star pacer Jasprit Bumrah stepping in as stand-in captain. Regular skipper Hardik Pandya missed the match due to a back injury, while Suryakumar Yadav and Alzarri Joseph were also unavailable for personal reasons. Bumrah won the toss and opted to bowl first, marking his first experience leading Mumbai Indians in a competitive match.
Punjab Kings, led by Shreyas Iyer, made multiple changes to their playing XI as they pushed for a crucial win to stay in the playoff race. Mumbai Indians, already eliminated from the tournament, made two changes and treated the match as a formality. Punjab included Harpreet Brar, Xavier Bartlett, and Azmatullah Omarzai in their lineup, while Mumbai featured Tilak Varma, Will Jacks, and Deepak Chahar among others.
