Just days after the Asia Cup 2025, Team India is set to host West Indies in a two-match Test series. However, ahead of the series starting October 2, India faces a setback as wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant has been ruled out due to injury.
Pant, who suffered a serious leg injury during the England Test series, is yet to recover fully. As a result, Dhruv Jurel is likely to take over as the main wicketkeeper, with Narayan Jagadeesan being considered as the backup option.
With Pant missing, KL Rahul is expected to be named vice-captain.
Out-of-form Karun Nair may be dropped.
Shreyas Iyer, currently leading India-A, is all set to return to the main squad.
Devdutt Padikkal and Sarfaraz Khan remain in contention.
Nitish Kumar Reddy, who has recovered from injury, is also expected to make the cut.
1st Test: Oct 2 – 6 @ Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad
2nd Test: Oct 10 – 14 @ Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi
Bottom Line: India will miss Pant’s aggressive batting and leadership, but the series also provides a golden chance for youngsters like Jurel to shine.
