India's T20 series defeat against England has reportedly prompted the BCCI to review the performance of the team's coaching setup. The loss marked India's first bilateral T20 series defeat to England since 2019 and the first time the team has lost a bilateral series of at least two matches against England. Reports suggest that the BCCI is preparing a comprehensive performance review of the batting unit as well as the overall coaching structure. Although head coach Gautam Gambhir is contracted until 2027, there has been no official confirmation regarding any decision on his future.
Responding to the criticism, Gautam Gambhir defended the team's performances, stating that the current squad is undergoing a rebuilding phase with several senior players unavailable. He pointed out the absence of experienced players such as Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah and stressed that young cricketers need time to adapt to international cricket. Reports also indicate that the performances of Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, and Tilak Varma are under close observation as the management expects improved performances in the upcoming matches.
