Amid growing criticism following India’s clean sweep losses at home to New Zealand and South Africa, reports surfaced suggesting that Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir could be removed or limited to white-ball cricket. Speculation also claimed that the BCCI was considering a new Test coach and had even held talks with former cricketer VVS Laxman. These reports gained traction over the past few days, fuelling uncertainty around the coaching setup.
The BCCI has firmly denied these claims. Secretary Devajit Saikia clarified that there is no truth to the rumours, stating that Gambhir will continue as per his contract, which runs until the 2027 ODI World Cup. He emphasized that no discussions have been held with any other candidate and that there are no plans to alter the current coaching structure. Saikia added that the board has full faith in Gambhir and described the reports as baseless and purely speculative.
