Team India secured their first victory of the England tour by defeating England in the opening ODI through an impressive all-round performance. After suffering six consecutive defeats in the T20 format, India bounced back strongly with both bat and ball. Axar Patel emerged as the star performer, claiming four wickets and scoring an unbeaten 57, earning the Player of the Match award.
With this performance, Axar etched his name into the record books by becoming only the third Indian cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar and Hardik Pandya to score a half-century and take four wickets in an ODI on foreign soil. The victory also marked India's sixth consecutive ODI win over England. Additionally, England suffered their first ODI defeat at Edgbaston since 2015, while India successfully chased a 250-plus target without a half-century from either Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli for only the second time since 2016.
