Australia tightened their grip on the Ashes by convincingly defeating England in the second Test. The visitors secured an 8-wicket victory, taking a dominant 2–0 lead in the five-match series.
Resuming their second innings at 134/6, England managed only 241 runs in 75.2 overs. Captain Ben Stokes (50 off 152 balls) and Will Jacks (41 off 92) batted with determination but couldn’t prevent the collapse.
Michael Neser produced a match-defining spell of 5/42, including the crucial wicket of Will Jacks, taken brilliantly by Steve Smith. This ended a key 96-run partnership between Stokes and Jacks. Soon after, Stokes also fell to Neser, and the innings wrapped up quickly.
Chasing just 65, Australia completed the target effortlessly within 10 overs, losing only two wickets. Travis Head (22), Jake Weatherald (17*), and Steve Smith (23*) ensured a smooth finish.
Mitchell Starc, who impressed with both bat and ball (6/75, 77 runs, 2/64), was named Player of the Match.
The third Test will begin in Adelaide on the 17th of this month.
