The Ranji Trophy, one of India’s premier domestic cricket tournaments, is usually officiated by umpires appointed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). However, Australian umpire Ben Treloar’s presence in India to officiate Ranji Trophy matches has drawn attention in cricket circles. The move is part of a reciprocal exchange programme between Cricket Australia and the BCCI. Under the arrangement, Indian umpire Parashar Joshi will also officiate in domestic cricket matches in Australia.
Treloar is currently officiating in the Ranji Trophy match between Gujarat and Delhi. He is also scheduled to officiate in the Mumbai–Haryana fixture beginning on October 26. Meanwhile, Joshi will officiate in the Sheffield Shield match between Queensland and Tasmania from November 11 to 14, followed by the New South Wales–Queensland match from November 22 to 25. The exchange is aimed at strengthening cricketing ties and providing officials from both countries with experience in each other’s domestic competitions. Reports that Chennai will host the opening match of the upcoming Big Bash League season have also attracted attention as another development in India–Australia cricket relations.
