Asian Games: Lovlina Borgohain, Priya Ghaghas and Kapil Phokharia Enter Semifinals

Indian boxers delivered a strong performance at the Asian Games on Monday, with Lovlina Borgohain, Priya Ghaghas and Kapil Phokharia advancing to the semifinals and securing three medals for the country. In the women’s 75kg quarterfinal, Lovlina defeated South Korea’s Seong Su-yeon 5-0. The Indian boxer had won silver at the previous Asian Games and is now aiming to improve the colour of her medal. Priya also produced a commanding performance in the women’s 60kg quarterfinal, defeating Tajikistan’s Mijgona Samadova 5-0.

In the men’s 90kg quarterfinal, Kapil Phokharia completed India’s impressive day in the boxing ring with a 5-0 victory over South Korea’s Kim Gik-che. Reflecting on her journey, Lovlina said Japan holds a special place in her life because she won an Olympic bronze medal at the Tokyo Games, while she secured silver at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. She said she would look to improve the colour of her medal this time. With all three Indian boxers reaching the semifinals, India has already secured three medals from these events.
