

India continued its strong showing at the Asian Games, with the men’s and women’s kabaddi teams securing gold medals. In the men’s final, India defeated Iran 40-34 after a closely fought first half. Arjun Deshwal and Devank helped India take an 18-17 lead at the break before the team strengthened its defence and moved ahead after an all-out. The women’s team also defeated Iran 37-34 in a thrilling final, with captain Pushpa, Sanju Devi and Nikita making important contributions. India’s men have now won nine of the 10 Asian Games kabaddi titles since the sport was introduced in 1990, while the women have claimed four golds since women’s kabaddi was introduced in 2010.
Shooting added another silver, with Tilottama Sen, Vidars Vinod and Aashi Chouksey finishing second in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions team event. In athletics, Prachi Chaudhary won bronze in the women’s 400m with a timing of 53.21 seconds. Meanwhile, Sawan Barwal produced one of the day’s standout performances, winning marathon silver in 2:11:37. The 28-year-old Army athlete also broke his own national record while securing India’s first Asian Games marathon medal since 1982. In badminton, P.V. Sindhu and Unnati Hooda advanced to the women’s singles quarterfinals, while Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly also reached the women’s doubles quarterfinals. India’s table tennis campaign ended with Manush Shah and Yashaswini Ghorpade exiting in the pre-quarterfinals.
