Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has strongly criticised Team India's "chop and change" selection policy, expressing disappointment over the treatment of Sanju Samson. Speaking on journalist Vimal Kumar's YouTube channel, Ashwin questioned why Samson, who was named Player of the Tournament in the 2026 T20 World Cup just a few months ago, was dropped despite giving opportunities to young players like Vaibhav Suryavanshi. He warned that such inconsistent selections could create insecurity among players.
Ashwin also questioned the logic behind resting Samson, pointing out that he only plays T20 cricket and does not feature regularly in Tests or ODIs. He reminded the team management that they had earlier spoken about giving Sai Sudharsan a longer run in Tests and asked why the same approach was not followed for Samson. Ashwin said players should not fear losing their place after a few poor performances, as it could negatively affect both their confidence and the team's success.
