India’s women’s recurve archery team created history at the 2026 Asian Games by winning the country’s first-ever gold medal in the event. The trio of Ankita Bhakat, Kirti and Kumkum Anil Mohod defeated South Korea 5-3 in a thrilling final on Friday. The first two sets ended level at 54-54 and 56-56, keeping the contest tightly poised.
India took control in the third set with a 55-52 scoreline, while the fourth set ended in a 54-54 draw, securing the gold for the Indian team with a 5-3 victory. Earlier, India defeated China 5-1 in the semifinals to reach the women’s recurve team final for the first time. The gold also took India’s overall medal tally at the Games to 67, comprising 11 gold, 23 silver and 33 bronze medals.
