Andhra Cricket Association Launches Women’s Premier League

The Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) is set to launch a four-team Women’s Premier League (MPL) to promote women’s cricket in Andhra Pradesh and identify promising talent from rural areas. ACA president and MP K. Sivanath, popularly known as Chinni, announced that the tournament will be held at the Mangalagiri Cricket Stadium from September 15 to 26. Speaking at a media conference at the ACA office, Chinni, former India women’s captain and ACA women’s team mentor Mithali Raj, and ACA Operations Director Kalyan Krishna shared details of the league. Four franchises have already been finalised through a bidding process, while more than 200 players have registered for the upcoming auction.

Mithali Raj described the Women’s Premier League as an important milestone for the ACA and said the tournament would provide a valuable platform for cricketers from rural areas to showcase their talent. She emphasised the importance of creating more opportunities for women to pursue competitive cricket. Kalyan Krishna said the league would initially feature four teams, with plans to expand the competition by adding more franchises in the future. The ACA expects the new league to strengthen the women’s cricket ecosystem in the state and create a pathway for talented players to progress to higher levels of the sport.
