India opener Abhishek Sharma is reportedly unhappy with Sunrisers Hyderabad’s captaincy plans and could explore a move away from the franchise ahead of IPL 2027. According to reports, Abhishek had leadership ambitions after being associated with the SRH setup since 2019. The franchise appointed Ishan Kishan as interim captain for IPL 2026 when Pat Cummins was unavailable at the start of the season, while Abhishek was named vice-captain. Reports now suggest that SRH’s plans involving Kishan have contributed to uncertainty over Abhishek’s future.
Informal discussions involving Abhishek and other franchises have reportedly taken place, with Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings among the teams linked with the left-handed batter. Delhi Capitals has also been mentioned as a possible destination because of his association with mentor Yuvraj Singh. However, no trade or transfer has been finalised, and SRH CEO K. Shanmugam has denied the reports, describing the speculation as untrue. Abhishek had a strong IPL 2026 campaign, scoring 563 runs, according to IPL’s official statistics. His future with SRH is therefore expected to remain a talking point as the retention and trade process develops.
