Abhishek Sharma was hospitalised due to a stomach-related issue and has since been discharged. However, his availability for the upcoming T20 World Cup match against Namibia remains uncertain. Considering the situation and the relatively lower-ranked opposition, the team management may avoid taking risks with his inclusion. In such a scenario, Sanju Samson is likely to open the innings alongside Ishan Kishan.

Ahead of the World Cup, Samson struggled in the five-match T20 series against New Zealand, scoring just 46 runs in total with scores of 10, 6, 0, 24, and 6. He subsequently lost his place in the final squad and was not part of the playing eleven in the warm-up match against South Africa. While loss of form is common in cricket, a quick comeback is crucial, especially amid stiff competition. If given an opportunity against Namibia, Samson will need to deliver a strong performance to keep his prospects alive, as another failure could significantly impact his chances going forward.
