Ahead of the IPL 2026 mini auction, the BCCI has introduced a brand-new rule that adds a fresh twist to the bidding process. The auction, set to take place in Abu Dhabi, will now feature a ‘Tie-Breaker’ mechanism to resolve deadlocks when two or more franchises are stuck at the same bid for a player. The move is expected to bring more clarity and excitement to high-stakes bidding wars.
Under this new rule, when a tie occurs, franchises will be given a tie-breaker form and asked to submit a sealed or secret bid in Indian rupees. This amount will not be paid to the player but directly to the BCCI. The franchise that submits the highest secret bid will win the player and must pay the amount within 30 days from the auction date. With teams like Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings holding strong purses, intense competition is expected for top overseas stars in the IPL 2026 auction.
