India Women began the T20 series with a comfortable win against Sri Lanka in the first match held at Visakhapatnam. After winning the toss and choosing to bowl, India restricted Sri Lanka to 121 runs for six wickets in 20 overs. Opener Gunaratne was the top scorer with 39 runs, while Hasini Perera (20), Harshitha (21) and captain Chamari Athapaththu (15) made useful contributions. Indian bowlers Kranti Goud, Deepti Sharma and Sreecharani took one wicket each.
Chasing a target of 122, India reached the total easily in just 14.4 overs, losing only two wickets. Jemimah Rodrigues played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 69 runs, while captain Harmanpreet Kaur remained not out with 15 runs. Shafali Verma (9) and Smriti Mandhana (25) could not stay long at the crease. With this performance, India secured a strong 8-wicket victory in the opening match.
