An immortal man (Nivin Pauly), who has lived for over 8,000 years, meets a Dubai returnee (Soori) on a train. The immortal man then puts him through a series of difficult situations inside a secluded compartment. Who is this mysterious man? Why is he targeting the Dubai returnee? How did he attain immortality? The film attempts to answer these questions through its unusual narrative.
The opening portions generate some curiosity with the introduction of an immortal man who behaves in an eccentric manner. A few comedy sequences work mildly and provide occasional entertainment. Nivin Pauly deserves appreciation for taking up a distinctive role and delivers a sincere performance despite the limitations of the writing. Soori performs well as a man caught in a difficult situation, while Anjali also makes a decent impression with her performance.
The first half feels unconventional, with a few sequences generating interest while others become tedious. Although the narrative creates some expectations for the second half, the film fails to capitalise on them. The latter portions are particularly slow, unnecessarily stretched and difficult to sit through. What initially appears to be an intriguing fantasy tale gradually turns into an exhausting experience. The excessive use of AI-generated visuals becomes distracting and takes viewers out of the story. The emotional connection between the lead characters also lacks depth. The climax fails to provide a satisfying conclusion, leaving viewers wondering about the director's intended message.
Yuvan Shankar Raja's music is just about adequate, while cinematographer N.K. Ekhambram does a neat job despite the limited setting in which much of the film unfolds. The editing is a major drawback, as several scenes continue longer than necessary. Director Ram comes up with a few interesting ideas but fails to weave them together effectively. The weak screenplay and sluggish execution ultimately make the film an unengaging experience.
On the whole, Sapthasagaralu Sapthagirulu has some interesting ideas but fails to translate them into an engaging cinematic experience. The dragged-out narrative, excessive AI-generated visuals and underwhelming climax make it a tiring watch. Nivin Pauly and Soori deliver decent performances, but their efforts are undermined by the film's weak execution.
