Story:

Set in 2016, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports launches a nationwide search for exceptional sporting talent after India's disappointing Olympic performance. During the mission, sports officer Mr. Paiswal (Boman Irani) arrives in Vizianagaram and discovers Peddi (Ram Charan), a jaggery worker from an unrecognized village known for his extraordinary skills across multiple sports. The film explores Peddi’s inspiring journey and his deep-rooted connection to his village.

Plus Points:

• Ram Charan is undoubtedly the biggest strength of Peddi. He delivers one of the most impactful performances of his career, completely immersing himself in the title role and showcasing remarkable emotional depth. His performance during the pre-climax and climax sequences stands out as a major highlight. Shiva Rajkumar leaves a strong impression in a crucial role, while Jagapathi Babu and Boman Irani add weight to the narrative with their effective performances. The sports sequences, especially the cricket episodes, are engaging and entertaining. The visually appealing rural backdrop, A.R. Rahman’s music, and the film’s grand production values further enhance the overall experience.

Minus Points:

• Despite its emotional ambitions, some key emotional scenes fail to create the desired impact due to ordinary execution. The narrative follows a few familiar sports-drama tropes, making certain portions predictable. Janhvi Kapoor’s role lacks depth and has limited importance to the main storyline. Talented supporting actors such as Rao Ramesh, John Vijay, and Ajay Ghosh are underutilized. A few dialogues delivered in the Uttarandhra dialect may be difficult for some viewers to fully understand. Additionally, the placement of the special song “Hallallallo” feels forced and disrupts the narrative flow.

Technical Aspects:

Director Buchi Babu Sana handles the ambitious subject with confidence and effectively utilizes Ram Charan’s strengths. A.R. Rahman’s music and background score enhance several key moments, while Ratnavelu’s cinematography beautifully captures both the rural setting and sports action. Navin Nooli’s editing is satisfactory, though a tighter cut could have improved the pacing. Production values are grand and impressive throughout.

Peddi is an engaging emotional sports drama powered by Ram Charan’s exceptional performance. While the film suffers from a few predictable moments and underdeveloped supporting characters, it succeeds in delivering an inspiring and emotionally satisfying experience.
