Where the first Kantara was a devotional drama packaged with action, Chapter 1 is a full-throttle action-adventure epic underpinned by devotional themes. The film truly soars from its pre-interval block onwards, treating the audience to a relentless series of spectacular set pieces. A chariot sequence, a tense tiger face-off, and the climactic fifteen-minute war are executed with breathtaking scale and originality. A masterfully executed twist in the second half stands as one of the best in Indian cinema this year.
The film, however, is not without minor flaws. The first half takes its time to establish the plot, leading to some pacing issues. Certain comedic episodes feel unnecessary and test the audience's patience, suggesting that tighter editing could have streamlined the experience.
