After delivering acclaimed horror dramas Bhoothakaalam and Bramayugam, director Rahul Sadasivan returns with Diés Iraé – The Day of Wrath, starring Pranav Mohanlal. The film attempts to blend psychological tension with supernatural horror but unfortunately, it doesn’t live up to the expectations set by the director’s previous works.
Storyline:
Rohan (Pranav Mohanlal), an architect and son of a real estate tycoon, learns about the mysterious suicide of his classmate Kani (Sushmitha Bhat). As he investigates her death, unsettling truths unfold about her family and an eerie connection to a woman named Elsamma. The rest of the story revolves around uncovering the haunting secret behind Kani’s death.
Performances:
Pranav Mohanlal carries the film on his shoulders with a convincing performance. His portrayal of fear and confusion is impressive. Jaya Kurup and Arun Ajikumar also deliver solid performances, adding weight to key moments.
Technical Aspects:
Christo Xavier’s background score and sound design stand out as the biggest strengths. The music builds an eerie atmosphere without overpowering the scenes. Cinematography by Shehnad Jalal perfectly complements the film’s mood, but the slow editing and lack of gripping sequences dilute the tension.
Verdict:
While Diés Iraé begins with potential, it suffers from a slow pace, predictable twists, and a weak climax. The haunting ambience and sound design are commendable, but the lack of genuine scares and depth make it a missed opportunity.
Rating: 2.5/5
Verdict: Disappointing Horror Attempt
