Story:
Selvam, a middle-class man in Chennai, works as a driver for a wealthy businessman and lives a simple life with his family. Though he dislikes loans, the influence of society and the desire to provide a better life push him into debt. The story follows how he struggles with credit cards, loan apps, and financial pressure, and how he fights to protect his dignity.
Plus Points:
The film’s biggest strength is its realism. It portrays middle-class struggles in a very relatable way. Samuthirakani delivers a powerful and emotional performance that connects with the audience. The family emotions, especially between husband and wife, are handled effectively. The message is conveyed naturally without being preachy.
Minus Points:
The slow pacing may not appeal to all audiences. Lack of commercial elements might not attract mass viewers. A few scenes feel slightly stretched.
Technical Aspects:
Technically, the film is decent. The dialogues are meaningful and thought-provoking. The non-linear screenplay keeps the narrative engaging. Background score enhances the emotional depth. Production values are appropriate for the story.
Verdict:
“Carmeni Selvam” is a heartfelt emotional drama that reflects the struggles of a middle-class family. With strong performances and a relevant message, it is a meaningful watch.
