Story: Anvesh (Sumanth Prabhas) runs a startup and falls in love with Maithili (Ananthika Sanilkumar), who is from Chennai. When Maithili comes to Hyderabad to meet Anvesh, an unexpected series of problems begins. What trouble does her arrival create for Anvesh and his group of friends? What actually happens to Maithili? How does Anvesh and his gang escape from the situation? The answers to these questions form the story of the film.

Plus Points: ‘Romanchakam’ relies heavily on situational and silly comedy rather than a strong story. Several portions remind the audience of the ‘Jathi Ratnalu’ style of humour and manage to deliver good entertainment. The fun episodes in the second half are particularly effective and generate plenty of laughs. The confusion-based comedy in the climax is one of the film’s highlights. Sumanth Prabhas performs his carefree youngster role with great ease and maintains good chemistry with Ananthika. Venkatesh Kakumanu, Narendra Ravi, Mani Aegurla and Sai Sohan, who play the hero’s friends, provide strong comic support throughout the film. Narendra Ravi stands out with his punch dialogues and frustrated expressions, while Upendra Limaye also adds to the fun.

Minus Points: The film takes a little too long to settle into its actual rhythm. The first half moves with some ups and downs and slows down at certain points. A song involving the friends feels like a speed breaker to the story and could have been trimmed. The self-realisation portions introduced in the middle of this otherwise comedy-driven story do not connect strongly with the audience. The emotional moments in the love track also lack the impact needed to create a stronger connection.

Technical Aspects: Vasuki Vaibhav’s music is pleasant and suits the film’s youthful mood. His background score provides good support whenever the pace of the film drops. Pawan Pappula’s cinematography gives the movie a fresh look, while the song visuals are also handled well. The production values are appropriate for the film. Director Venugopal Reddy shows a good understanding of buddy comedy and handles the fun portions effectively. However, a few key scenes could have been written and executed with more attention. Since the director also handled the editing, sharper cuts in a few places could have made the overall flow better.

Verdict: ‘Romanchakam’ is a youthful entertainer that primarily aims to provide fun and laughter. Sumanth Prabhas’ performance and the comedy between his friends’ gang are the biggest strengths of the film. Although the slow first half and underwhelming emotional portions are drawbacks, ‘Romanchakam’ can work as a decent weekend time-pass option for audiences looking to enjoy a light-hearted comedy without major expectations.
