The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has approached the Supreme Court, urging that local elections in Andhra Pradesh be conducted only after the final voter list is published. The party clarified that it is not seeking a postponement of the local elections, but wants the polls to be held based on the final electoral rolls. It has urged the court not to use the voter list dated January 1, 2026, as the basis for the elections, arguing that doing so could leave a large number of eligible citizens without voting rights and affect the prospects of free, fair and transparent elections.
The party’s arguments were presented before the Supreme Court, with YSRCP also raising objections to the High Court’s orders concerning the delimitation of wards. The matter is scheduled to be heard on Friday by a bench headed by the Chief Justice of India. The party has maintained that local election preparations should not proceed until the final voter list is available.
