YSR Congress Party chief and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy strongly criticized the Chandrababu Naidu-led government over the handling of the Sugali Preeti case. Jagan expressed anger over what he described as the government’s negligence and delay in ensuring justice for the victim. Sharing details on social media after meeting Sugali Preeti’s parents, Jagan stated that the 10th-class student was brutally murdered in 2017 and alleged that the then Chandrababu government had failed to bring the culprits to justice.
Jagan said that after the YSRCP government came to power, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed based on the family’s request, and steps were taken to support the victim’s family by allotting a house site, agricultural land, and a government job. He also noted that a CBI investigation was recommended. However, he accused the present government of sidelining the case after returning to power. Jagan questioned why the state government was remaining silent despite the CBI reportedly citing a shortage of staff and resources. He further alleged that the victim’s family pension was stopped because they were speaking against the government. Assuring complete legal support, Jagan said YSRCP would continue to stand by the family until justice is delivered.
