Ahead of Bakrid celebrations, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that Namaz should be offered in shifts if mosques and designated prayer spaces are overcrowded. Speaking in Lucknow, he emphasized that public roads are meant for traffic and daily movement, questioning the practice of blocking roads for religious gatherings. He clarified that the government is not against Namaz, but against inconvenience caused to the public.
Yogi Adityanath further warned that strict action would be taken against violations during Eid al-Adha prayers. He suggested that large gatherings can be managed through a shift system to ensure smooth public movement and law and order. His remarks sparked sharp reactions online, with supporters backing the move for traffic management while critics accused the government of selectively targeting Muslim religious practices.
