Peddapalle MP Gaddam Vamsi Krishna has raised concerns over issues related to the electoral system and citizens’ right to vote. He said the Election Commission, as a key constitutional institution, must function transparently and impartially. Questioning the reported refusal to meet more than 300 MPs who sought to present their views and concerns, Vamsi Krishna said decisions concerning the electoral process should involve proper consultation with elected representatives. He also objected to the handling of MPs during peaceful protests.
Vamsi Krishna questioned how changes to Form-6 could be undertaken without adequate consultation with other members of the Election Commission. He called for greater transparency and accountability in decisions concerning electoral rolls and voter rights. Referring to the constitutional role of the Leader of Opposition in the CEC selection process, he said public confidence in the electoral system requires an independent, transparent and accountable Election Commission. He stressed that every vote represents a citizen’s right and said the fight to protect voting rights would continue.
