Former MLC K. Kavitha has highlighted the urgent need to stock epidural anaesthetics in all government hospitals across Telangana. She emphasized that the availability of epidural would allow pregnant women to have pain-free deliveries and alleviate the hardships they face during childbirth. Kavitha urged Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha to take immediate policy action to ensure this essential medicine is available in every hospital.
Telangana sees approximately 500 deliveries every month in government hospitals, with around 250 being C-sections and the rest normal deliveries. Childbirth can often be painful, and in the past, women had to endure extreme pain due to the unavailability of anaesthetics. Kavitha also apologized for not considering the mandatory administration of epidural during normal deliveries during the 10-year BRS rule. She recalled her frequent visits to Nizamabad government hospital and supporting the staff with free meals, yet regretted not prioritizing epidural availability.
