Actor Vijay’s political party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), has indicated the possibility of forging an alliance with the Congress party in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections to be held this year. TVK National Spokesperson Felix Gerald stated that the ideologies of Congress and TVK align closely, particularly in their commitment to secularism and their opposition to communal politics, describing the two parties as “natural allies.” He also mentioned that Rahul Gandhi and TVK founder Vijay share a cordial relationship.
Felix noted that although there is potential for an alliance, several issues need to be discussed before any formal understanding is reached. He alleged that the current stalemate is due to the Tamil Nadu Congress leadership, claiming that certain leaders are reluctant to engage in talks with TVK for personal reasons. He further expressed that a TVK–Congress alliance could help prevent the fragmentation of minority and anti-BJP votes.
Meanwhile, signs of a possible alliance between TVK and Congress reportedly emerged as early as last month. The participation of Congress workers in a TVK event held on December 25 strengthened these speculations. Vijay launched TVK in October 2024 as an alternative political force in Tamil Nadu. However, the ruling DMK, led by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, has expressed confidence that TVK’s entry poses no threat to their political standing.
