The Union Cabinet has approved the continuation of the Sarthak PDS ration distribution scheme until 2031. The decision was taken as part of the government’s efforts to strengthen the Public Distribution System and ensure uninterrupted food security support for citizens across the country. Under the approved plan, the government is expected to spend nearly Rs 25,530 crore during the period of the 16th Finance Commission.
The Centre stated that the scheme will continue to provide ration benefits under the National Food Security Act to nearly 80 crore people across India. Officials said the move aims to improve food accessibility for economically weaker sections while ensuring efficient distribution through the public welfare system.
