Ukraine has said it is ready to consider India’s proposal for a possible ceasefire with Russia, with Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha describing it as the broadest among four proposals received by Kyiv. The other proposals have come from Turkiye, Egypt and the United States. Sybiha said Ukraine is open to different ceasefire formats, but any agreement would depend on Russia also agreeing to the arrangement. His comments came shortly after Russian President Vladimir Putin said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has “very good ideas” for finding a mutually acceptable solution to the conflict.
According to Sybiha, India’s proposal goes beyond a ceasefire along the frontline and also addresses attacks on energy and port infrastructure and the situation in the Black Sea. Kyiv has indicated that it is prepared to consider an energy and Black Sea truce, while discussions also include agricultural and maritime issues. The Black Sea remains strategically important for commercial shipping and Ukrainian grain exports. Ukraine’s response signals its willingness to examine India’s initiative, though any ceasefire arrangement would require agreement from Russia as well.
