Tamil Nadu Minister and DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin has responded to the controversy surrounding his remarks on Sanatana Dharma during the recent Assembly sessions. Facing criticism for allegedly insulting the concept, he clarified that his statements were being misinterpreted. He emphasized that his intention was not to disrespect Sanatana Dharma but to highlight the need to eradicate the caste system, which divides people into higher and lower sections. He reiterated his commitment to ensuring equal rights for all individuals in society.
Udhayanidhi further stated that his speech in the Assembly was inspired by the principles of Periyar and Dr B R Ambedkar. He asserted that he would not be intimidated by criticism and would continue to fight against caste-based discrimination. He clarified that while they are not against Sanatana Dharma, they strongly oppose inequality and oppression associated with it. His earlier statement calling for the eradication of Sanatana Dharma, which he described as being against social justice, has triggered widespread debate and criticism.
