As the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections draw closer, speculation is growing over the possible formation of a TVK–Congress alliance. Amid ongoing discussions, comments made by SA Chandrasekhar, father of TVK chief Vijay, suggesting that Vijay was ready to support Congress in regaining its past glory, triggered sharp reactions. However, the Congress party firmly rejected the idea, stating it does not need a “Vijay boost.” Responding to the remarks, Tamil Nadu Congress president K. Selvaperunthagai said the party’s cadre is already energized and asserted that Rahul Gandhi himself is their source of motivation. Neither Vijay nor TVK officially responded to the controversy.
Meanwhile, uncertainty continues over alliance equations in the state. Although DMK leaders claim the INDIA alliance formed during the Lok Sabha elections will continue for the Assembly polls, Congress leaders are reportedly demanding greater seat-sharing and a stronger role in governance. Against this backdrop, reports of a possible Congress–TVK tie-up have intensified. While parties like the AIADMK and BJP have openly invited TVK for an alliance, indications suggest Vijay is more inclined toward Congress. TVK national representative Felix Gerald added fuel to the speculation by stating that TVK and Congress are natural ideological partners and highlighting the personal rapport between Vijay and Rahul Gandhi.
