US President Donald Trump has made strong remarks about the unrest in France, blaming uncontrolled immigration for the protests and violence. He alleged that immigrants arriving from other countries were bringing hatred into France and damaging a country that was once great. Trump called on the French government to tighten border controls and curb immigration. The remarks come amid reports of demonstrations involving students, young people, workers and other groups protesting over rising living costs, concerns about deteriorating conditions in schools, shortages of educational facilities and dissatisfaction with public services.
Although a major rally in Paris was reportedly peaceful, violence broke out in some areas, with vehicles and public buildings set on fire. Clashes between protesters and police followed, prompting law enforcement personnel to use tear gas and water cannons to disperse crowds. However, the French government's explanation differs from Trump's assessment. French authorities and protesters have pointed to economic hardship, rising prices, teacher shortages and concerns over public services as the main issues driving the demonstrations. They have rejected the claim that immigration or religious issues are responsible for the unrest, stressing that the protests are rooted in domestic social and economic concerns.
