US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an immediate ceasefire targeting attacks on energy infrastructure, including power plants, oil facilities and gas installations. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he had not been informed about the agreement beforehand and learned of it through media reports. He welcomed the proposal, saying Ukraine was ready to halt attacks on Russian oil refineries if Moscow stopped strikes on Ukrainian energy facilities. Zelenskyy stressed that reducing tensions and achieving peace would require both sides to honour the arrangement. The terms of the ceasefire remained unclear, and Russia had not officially confirmed the agreement at the time of the reports.
Despite Trump’s announcement, Ukraine reported further Russian attacks on its energy infrastructure. Zelenskyy said drone strikes affected areas including Kyiv, while a power facility in Kharkiv was also targeted. Reports also described civilian casualties and injuries in the latest attacks. Zelenskyy warned that Russia could face serious consequences if the strikes continued. The developments have raised doubts about whether the proposed energy truce is operational, as Kyiv awaits further details and Moscow’s position remains unclear.
