The ongoing crisis at IndiGo is solely due to the airline’s internal issues, Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu clarified. Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, he stated that problems related to pilot rostering and crew scheduling were the primary reasons behind the large-scale flight cancellations. He pointed out that even after the implementation of revised Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) norms, operations ran smoothly for the first month, and the trouble began only from December 3. The Minister expressed concern over the inconvenience faced by passengers.
The government is encouraging as many airlines as possible to operate, and so far 5,86,700 tickets have been cancelled due to the IndiGo crisis, Ram Mohan Naidu informed Parliament. He assured that strict monitoring is in place to prevent unreasonable fare hikes and that price caps have been imposed. The Minister emphasized that IndiGo’s internal issues will be resolved soon and the government is committed to ensuring minimum disruption for passengers.
